There are two generations working to progress equine nutrition in the 21st century plus other couples and siblings throughout the factory and office-based teams. What’s important about so many of the people behind the Baileys brand is that they are true horse men and women, with many of them not just owning horses but actively competing, racing and breeding them. This means that we’re familiar with the practicalities of keeping and feeding horses, we know the challenges our customers face and we understand their needs.   

All the ingredients we use are chosen because we believe they are the best for the horse, many are sourced locally and all are carefully selected for their quality and suitability. This, along with our meticulous production techniques, means that a bag of Baileys really is different from a bag of feed from another manufacturer; the digestibility is outstanding, so your horse gets more per scoop, with a balance of nutrients that means a Baileys-fed horse stands out with a glossy coat and superb muscle tone. We always stick to consistent formulations, which is why we can confidently print a list of ingredients on each bag or tub, and our high production standards apply across the entire range, with all products tested for prohibited substances as specified by The Jockey Club and the FEI.

So from a chance but significant remark, the idea for HorseHage was born.

The original Ryegrass HorseHage has been joined by High Fibre HorseHage, Timothy HorseHage and the specialist product Alfalfa HorseHage. Other high fibre dust-free feeds include Mollichaff, AppleChaff, HoofKind, ShowShine, Veteran and the molasses free Alfalfa range including Alfalfa Oil and Hi-Fibre Alfalfa.

A Royal Warrant was awarded in 1983 after the Queen’s horse, Burmese, was fed HorseHage when suffering a respiratory problem. He is one of tens of thousands of ponies and horses, from Shetlands to Thoroughbreds, that have benefited from HorseHage’s dust-free properties.

HorseHage is used by the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket and has also been supplied to the British Equestrian Teams at every Olympic Games from Los Angeles in 1984 through to Athens 2004.

Mark Westaway gives two main reasons for the success of HorseHage. “Firstly it is a natural product with no additives and is the nearest thing you can get to grass in the field, secondly, it not only benefits a horse’s respiratory system but its digestive system, too. Over thirty years of production has given us all the knowledge and experience we need to make a top quality product, and our sales prove this.”

The milestone dates:
1982 – True to the tradition of the master craftsmen, the teenager, groom-lad’s certificate in hand; set off on the tour of France, working in turn with the great master saddlers, who trained him in leathercrafting and instilled a desire to create quality products.

1985 – Opening of a repair and saddlery product manufacturing workshop in Sare.

1992 – Move to the Biarritz premises, enabling a more steady production of saddles.

1994 – The first Devoucoux catalogue is published for mail order sales.

1996 – Indirect marketing is scrapped and sales direct to riders start up with salaried sales staff.

1999 – Creation of a first subsidiary in the USA, and opening of the first devoucoux.com web site.

2000 – Move to the Bidart site into new premises, more suitable for quality manufacture.

2003 – Creation of a second subsidiary in Great Britain and opening of the second generation site.

The company’s stance
One step ahead The Devoucoux brand’s spectacular rise to success has been due to the fact that the range of products it offers cover needs that have until now been unsatisfied. Devoucoux ranks among the top of the range, tailored saddlery products, designed for all riders and all types of mount, whether competition or leisure. The common denominator in the Devoucoux initiative: innovation and customer service.

The catalogue includes thirteen models of saddle, which are available in as many colours and sizes as there are rider and horse pairs. A matching technical range of accessories rounds-off the saddlery business. In manufacturing, the best French leathers are put to their best use by the know-how of the Devoucoux craftsman saddlers, devoted to beautiful products and lovingly finished work. This obsession with quality extends to an after-sales service that is always at the disposal of riders.

The department is headed by John Killingbeck MRCVS, and is supported by Mark Emerson MRCVS and the vets from the Stud Practice department: Chris Shepherd MRCVS, Pete Ravenhill MRCVS, Carolyne Crowe MRCVS, Katherine Hemson MRCVS and Ewan Maskrey MRCVS.

The practice offers first opinion and emergency treatment including x-ray, ultrasound and endoscopy at your premises. The department benefits from the additional support of specialists and surgical facilities back at the clinic if required. The following services are provided:
