Welcome to Georgie Spence Eventing
Georgie is based in Foxham, near Chippenham, Wiltshire and from a horsey family. She went to Stonar School and gained 10 GCSE’s before starting her career in Eventing. Thanks to the support of her family and current owners, she has started to make a name for herself as one of the top up and coming young riders in the sport.
In 2006 she won the Under 18 National Championships, in 2007 and 2008 she has won the Edy Goldman trophy for the top BE rider Under 21. She was also the first teenager for over a decade to complete Badminton and Burghley with clear cross country rounds in 2008, and in 2009 was the only rider to have two horses clear inside the time cross country at Badminton.
Towards the end of 2006 Georgie was selected onto the UK Sport – World Class Start Programme. The programme is aimed at young riders who could be potential Olympic candidates in the future. This runs for two years at a time and is a lottery funded scheme offering financial support as well as regular training days and sessions from top trainers. In November 2008 she was reselected for another 2 years.
Currently Georgie’s top horses include Running Brook ll and Birthday Night. She had a great introduction into eventing with Song For Gull and Trenear, two rides that have provided her with a great start to her career with wins including Necarne Castle CCIJ*, Chepstow CCI* U18 National Championships, and Avenches CCI* Switzerland.
Another of her top rides is Velosity III, owned by Ms Abigail Bingley, Mr Guy Briselden and her father. He is an up and coming 8 year old who shows a lot of potential, who was 3rd at Weston CCI* in 2009 and has just jumped a faultless double clear in his first CCI** at Hartpury 2010.
A busy and very successful 2009 season saw Georgie chosen as a member of the European Young Rider Squad at Kreuth in Germany. This season she has some fantastic horses competing at 3 and 4* level and some very exciting younger horses coming up through the grades.
Says Georgie: “Thanks to family backing and my current owners, trainers and horses, I feel I am starting to establish myself in the sport but you must never stand still. It is a tough game and I aim to be in it for many years.”
